SUPPORTING NEURODIVERSE KIWI ARTISTS

Handcrafted Pottery,
Boundless Creativity

At The Unbound Canvas, pottery is more than just clay. It’s a vessel for hopes and dreams. Every handcrafted piece you bring into your home directly empowers a talented young artisan with an intellectual disability. When you shop here, you aren't just buying pottery, you’re helping build a dream and creative business - one unique creation at a time.

Every piece carries more than form - it carries possibility...

The Unbound Canvas is a celebration of neurodiversity and creative expression. As an autistic potter, I channel my unique perspective into every piece I create. Your purchase directly supports my journey as a neurodiverse entrepreneur, proving that different minds create extraordinary art.

Handcrafted Pottery

Wheel-thrown and shaped by hand. I let the clay respond naturally rather than forcing exact symmetry, allowing form and texture to emerge on their own.

Small-batch Releases

Work is released in limited numbers, shaped by what feels manageable and meaningful. This allows every piece to receive proper attention.

Pottery with Meaning

These are pieces made to be used and lived with - everyday forms that carry intention, not perfection - that feel comfortable and tactile in your hands

Meet the Artist

Louis with glasses and brown hair working on a pottery wheel, shaping clay with his hands in a cluttered workshop.

The Unbound Canvas is owned by 28 year-old Louis from Wellington New Zealand, a ceramic artist who has found calm and clarity through working with clay. As someone with autism and an intellectual disability, creative expression plays an important role in how Louis moves through the world.

Pottery has become a grounding, therapeutic practice - a place where there’s no rush, no pressure, and no need to fit into anyone else’s expectations. Filled with authenticity, every creation comes directly from Louis's hands, shaped by his experience and unique way of seeing the world.

FINISHED WITH BLUE GLAZES

This blue floral bowl wasn't rushed on a wheel, it was brought to life using the traditional pinch pot technique. The result is an organic, undulating shape that mimics the effortless beauty of a blooming flower.

What I do

MORE THAN JUST POTTERY GIFTS

Every piece grows from time at the wheel or pure imagination, shaped with care and intention.

Decorative ceramic items including a shark-shaped tray, a large tooth-shaped dish, and a mug, placed on newspaper with a pack of baby wipes and papers nearby.
  • Custom work is created through conversation and at a pace that allows for care and focus. If you’re looking for a specific form, size, or idea, I’m happy to talk it through and see what’s possible. I take on a limited number of custom pieces so the process stays calm and manageable.

  • These are pieces made to be given, used, and enjoyed - not stored away. Bowls, vessels, and everyday forms that feel thoughtful and personal, whether you’re gifting someone else or choosing something for yourself.

  • My pottery is released in small batches as it’s made. Orders are shaped by time in the studio rather than strict schedules, which allows each piece to be finished with proper attention. When something is available, it’s ready to be shared.

Pottery doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.
Each piece from The Unbound Canvas is made to be used, held, and lived with.
